Another important history


This church is probably the most representative of Bogota's colonial chuches.
Its part of the convent of Clarisas nuns, built between 1619 and1630.
The single have here is decorated entirely with painted motifs, and the monastery is considered the most architectually rich in the country.
The religious sculturse are all made of wood convert with gold.It is a museum nowdays but it was once the temple of sisiters Clarisas convent colonial art can be appreciated with the works of Gregorio Vasquez de Arce y Caballos, los Figueroa and the cruz amongs and others.
Its walls have a barroque style and there are parts where mural paintings form the XVIII century can actually be seen.
There is a comprenhensive collection of religious art and some fine interior decoration.
In 1968 it was secularized to become the museum of religious art a concert hall.
The money for the construction of Santa Clara was donated by Don Juan Ceprano and Maria Arias Dugarte sister from the first obispo of Bogotá Hernando Arias Dugarte.
